This was a beautiful wedding in Waterton Lakes National Park in Alberta Canada. These were two First Nations/Indigenous families that were all heart, steeped in meaningful tradition and love.
I loved being a part of their day. I've learned a lot about other families and cultures by doing weddings for almost 2 decades as a photographer. This was the first wedding I've done where both the bride and groom were from Indigenous/First Nations families. I quickly saw the difference in how these families loved. It was a fierce, but gentle love toward each other. Their authenticity was unique. There were traditions that occurred in the Blackfoot language that I had no idea what they were saying at the time, but I had tears rolling down my cheeks behind my lens because I felt the impact of the meaning in my heart without being able to decipher the words.
I also chuckled to myself that whenever I needed to add a grandmother to the family photo set up, all I had to do was find the grandchildren and the grandmother was nearby. It was so adorable.
