Since I achieved my food photography accreditation with the Professional Photographers of Canada in three rounds of judging, I thought it would be fun to learn how to make my own custom plates and vessels to try more unique settings for photographing food.
Two of my three children and myself took clay wheel classes this Winter and Spring. It was a great activity to do with my children once a week for three months. This has taught me humility, patience with myself, and resilience. It felt so good to put my hands in the Earth during a season that we aren't gardening outside.
Over half of our first class were health-care workers with the same idea - learning something that will help them de-stress and calm one's self. Leisure buffers stress and in my neck of the woods, healthcare workers are still very much going through difficult times with severe short-staffing and working extra long hours post-covid. Many nurses are taking early retirement, reducing their hours, or leaving the profession for another career. Covid was hard on us.
Creative activities balance me and ground me. We each need a go-to activity that helps calm our central nervous systems after experiencing stress.
I made these three ceramic pieces. I'm still elevating my skill, and its so fun to do.
