I've written about how I've been trying to finish my Masters Degree in Nursing. For about a month, I was in concentrated synthesis and writing mode, so much so, that I was an absolute space case in most other areas of my life. It was almost comical how much I had to double check details of basic activities I'm well-versed in to make sure I wasn't missing anything or making mistakes (addresses, recipes, scheduling, etc.).
After my last paper deadline (before it went to the revision stage), I had a plan set up to jet to Vancouver with one of my closest friends, Tiffany, to just 'be'. I had enough doing, it was time to reconnect with being. We had flights, backpacks, and a place to stay, and no plans. We walked (a lot), talked (a lot), shopped a little, and tried all kinds of cuisines along the way. Vancouver is known for amazing food. If you haven't visited there, you should.
Taking pictures is a big part of enjoying a new location for me. Tiff was a great traveling companion because she understood how capturing our journey was important for me and was so patient. Because we packed light (one small bag), I relied on my phone camera (not my favorite) and my sub-250g drone. (I check all local laws before I pop that sucker in the air.) For bigger trips where I don't travel so light, my "good camera" comes with me.
Being in the moment, meditation, and mindfulness is a proven wellness strategy. Knowing what works and incorporating what works best for ourselves is how to enact sovereignty and autonomy for our own wellness. (In particularly stressful times, this is my favorite guided meditation. Warning - there are cuss words in this one.) For me, capturing images helps me be in the moment. These are some of the images that I took from my phone. The sunset image is from the airplane as we took off the last day we were there.
I'm one who is not a natural relaxer (I'm very laid back, but I drive myself hard), so reacquainting myself with recreation is important and having great friends who help with that is fantastic. Reconnecting to our people is also important.
